Alternative processes

Here's is my final project of my alternative processes class.

After looking at some photographers in my photo history class last spring it got me thinking what I was going to do for my theme is this class. I have a ton (A TON) of Tiggers stuff animals (along with some other stuff like mugs and such.) and I wanted to "archive" my Tigger collection, but as I feared the teacher HATED the idea. Which I kinda didn't care. As you can see I still did what I wanted to do.

He told me to try to shoot the Tiggers like I was shooting a portrait and not just a shot of the stuff animal with it's entire body in the shot (like a toy product shot). I showed this projects in a 20 by 25 mat bored with 16 window matted holes with the four of the same shot (but different processes) sat in the middles and the blues stays with the blues, the browns in the brown section and so on.

He liked my final product along with my classmates. I also loved the final showing and plan to frame the project and keep in my home. Someone even told me I should have it in a room where it's put up on the wall and all the Tiggers are sitting under the photos. lol.

Hope y'all like -- let me know what you think.

More photos for senior port.

Now I'm having trouble getting the baseball and the "balls" photos loaded online. Both myspace and photobucket didn't upload and I don't know why -- I was going to post the entire project tonight, but without those two it's not final on here. So I have three to shear right now. Two softball (and the one with the grips is close to what the baseball one is) and a parachute one.

Enjoy.

Joleen

I took photos of my friend Joleen the other day for her website. I tried putting them on myspace and some wouldn't post so I wanted to post them here so they can all be seen.

I used a flash attachment to fill in the shadows.

Envelope: UPDATE.

Here is my final project.

Stopping the Action

This is how I'm doing with my senior portfolio, which will include 10 images in the final portfolio.

I am going to post my artist statement first, then include some of the stuff I have been working on.

Artist Statement:

Stopping the action

Sports have always been a big part of my life. I have played softball, soccer, and been on gymnastics and track and field teams. It seems only fitting that my childhood was filled with sports, that my future be surrounded by sports.

Sporting events are so fast-pace one might not see every bit of action during one event. Little bits of action aren't seen by the viewer, nor part of the action, but merely the pre or post action rituals. I will show some aspects of a given game which a viewer will not likely see or may past by too fast one may miss it with the blink of an eye. I will stop actions, such as a soccer player head-butting a ball during a game and go behind the scenes to show what may not be visible. In some cases it won't be part of the actual action, but without it the outcome wouldn't be the same. For example when a gymnasts chalks up before attempting a bar performance or tapping wrists or ankles to avoid future injuries or already ailing wounds during a meet. These are not part of the action of the sporting event, but essential to a gymnasts safely during the meet.
I intend to stop the action during the intense moments of fast-paced sporting events so the viewer can see details, which cannot be seen while watching a game or meet. Facial expressions and emotions will be shown, but not always prominent in each photo, since not every photo will include a face, but just a piece of the action.

In some cases multiple photos will be placed together to give the viewer different aspects of the sporting event will out having to move to another position. Placing two or more photos together will help the viewer to see which sports are being displayed since some photos will only be a part of the action.

Envelope

So in the senior port class I got a broken lens and had to photograph the frustrations of being a photographer.

So my idea is to portray three different things that has happened to me

1. Dropping a lens on the ground.
2. Dropping the lens in the water.
3. Having someone tell you, you can't photograph in a certain area.

So with the broken lens I'm going to drop it while taking a pix, put it in water, and use my brother as the person kicking me out of somewhere. I'm going to put all three shots in one frame (duh), which is like some of the stuff I have been working on for the final portfolio.

My project is sports related, but I'm going to show different parts and aspects of sports....but will also include typical action shots.

Since it's late now I will post some photos up in a few days.

School begins

So school started for me yesterday, but those were the non-photo related classes. I had my first photo class today, which is senior portfolio.

The one thing I was the most nervous about was this project that the teacher has every year. The previous class puts objects or types something up and puts it in an envelope.....well I got a broken lens and a note saying to photograph all the frustrations of a photographer. Needless to say I'm not very excited about it.

Next week we have to bring 3-5 past photographs, a portfolio proposal and a book of another artist who has inspired me. Another needless to say I don't own any books yet so I'm going to go by the library to get me some books.....then I have to write a short paper of this artist.

Well to come after my second photo class on Friday.

Summer time

So last week was was my last week in summer school and now I have a free summer with three days off from work. I plan on using these days a week off for cleaning (my car and bedroom at my mom's house are a mess), thinking of photo projects and a few other things I have planned.

I used Thursday, last week, as a fun day in the studio and I will post those photos up later.....after I download them.

FOOD

So I had done some drinks for the food category for the studio class, which the teacher liked both of, but I wanted to do some "real" food too. On Tuesday I took a stab at some food and made a breakfast thingy with a cantaloupe, but that just looked bad soI kept it simple.

Here are my drinks

And here's the "real" food
